A homely hotel in Cape Town near the coast

Cape Town is known for its incredibly diverse and beautiful landscapes, and this includes its sparkling turquoise ocean. I lived in Cape Town for a year in 3 different apartments, 2 of which were by the ocean, and let me tell you, it’s a whole different vibe when you’re staying close to the sea, even for just a short visit.

That’s why The One 8 Hotel might be a good option if you’re looking for accommodation in Cape Town close to the coast, especially if you’re on a budget and simply looking for a quiet and safe place to sleep. Just a 9-minute walk from Three Anchor Bay and the Sea Point promenade, The One 8 Hotel is a homely hotel in Cape Town near the coast, with a solar-heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi, in a peaceful residential area.

Why is The One 8 Hotel the ideal hotel for a stay in Cape Town?

1. Great location and easy access to explore Cape Town

Sea Point promenade

Located in a safe area between Green Point and Three Anchor Bay, The One 8 Hotel is within walking distance to the ocean and Sea Point promenade, multiple restaurants, Green Point Park, Cape Town’s most beautiful park, and the V&A waterfront for all your shopping and entertainment needs. If you want to be in the center of things but not quite in the actual centre of Cape Town and in a more chill area, then this a good option.

2. Hotel amenities and rooms

The One 8 Hotel is a simple hotel but has the amenities you need, including free secure parking on the premises, a fully licensed bar, and a swimming pool. One really important thing to note about the One 8 Hotel is that it has solar and inverter backup, meaning that it is not affected by electricity blackouts (called load shedding).

There’s always someone at the front desk as it’s open 24 hours, and the hotel also offers breakfast every morning, with a small buffet, a la carte, and continental options. Just be aware that the kitchen closes at 3pm, so while you can get lunch at the hotel, for dinner you will need to find other options. And there’s no water available for refill, you will need to purchase water bottles.

There are 5 types of rooms available at The One 8 Hotel

The rooms offer garden views, city views, and mountain views. All of them contain toiletries, an en-suite shower, wifi, a fridge, a TV, robes, a safe, and tea/coffee-making facilities. Additionally, all the rooms have air conditioning and heat. However, keep in mind that there’s no elevator.

1. Budget small double room on the ground floor

Despite being a small double room for budget-conscious travellers, this room has its own little courtyard and everything you need in a hotel room. Just note that it’s close to the reception, which can be noisy. The room size is about 16 m² or 172 square feet.

2. Standard en-suite rooms with a desk

This room is 22 m² (236 square feet) and you can choose between 2 single beds or 1 double bed. The room also has a desk and a large bathroom.

3. Standard en-suite rooms with a bathtub

This is the same as the standard en-suite room except that it also has a bathtub.

4. En-suite rooms with balcony

Enjoy your own private balcony with a garden or city view in this 21 m² (226 square feet) room.

5. Superior en-suite rooms with balcony
