The top eco hotels in Naxos: enjoy your island vacation sustainably

An island vacation to Naxos, one of Greece’s most beautiful, but not yet overcrowded islands, means beautiful beaches, delicious seafood, and tranquil relaxation. Most accommodation offer all of this, but a few specific ones also focus on sustainability, which makes the stay and experience even better, in my opinion. Think locally-sourced fresh ingredients, experiencing local culture, learning about the environmental surroundings. So here’s a list of the best eco hotels in Naxos for an authentic and beautiful trip.

The top eco hotels in Naxos

1. Elaiolithos

green hotels in naxos

An adults-only luxury accommodation nestled in the olive groves of Naxos, Elaiolithos is a family-run business with an outdoor gym, an outdoor pool with mountain views, uniquely decorated rooms and villas, and tranquil surrounding nature.

And even if sustainability isn’t your priority, Elaiolithos is still one of the best hotels in Naxos. It’s the best location for hiking adventures, which is one of the top activities in Naxos, and if you’re looking for a gorgeous hotel off the beaten path without the sound of screaming children, clean island air, and only the sound of nature around you, this is it. (PS: I recommend renting a car to explore the area more easily. Find the best car rental prices).

Elaiolithos’ sustainability efforts

With 95% of the hotel’s operations being sustainable, and with awards such as the Zero Waste Golden Distinction, you know that Elaiolithos is legit one of the top eco hotels in Naxos, and doesn’t mess around with its sustainability principles. They were also recently awarded the Gold Certification by the Good Travel Seal (a GSTC certification), with near-perfect scores across all sustainability categories — environmental, socio-cultural, and economic.

  • Locally-sourced ingredients within a 5 km (3-mile) radius
  • Farm-to-table policy
  • Serves traditional, artisanal, and seasonal meals
  • Zero-waste policy
  • Energy-efficient practices
  • Support and empower local female artists
  • Utilise local materials like Greek cotton

2. Aeolos Villas Sustainable Living

eco hotels in naxos

Close to Naxos town, Aeolos Villas is a family-run accommodation and provides a simple, yet stylish experience, or, as they put it, “effortlessly chic and unpretentious.” Minimalist but modern, Aeolos Villas is a serene retreat to enjoy nature: it only has 2 villas and 1 suite, each with a kitchenette, a private hot tub, and panoramic views. You’ll also get a daily homemade breakfast at the gazebo and a complimentary bottle of local wine upon arrival. The suite is best suited for a couple or 3 people, while the villas can accommodate up to 6 or 7 people.

Aeolos Villas’ sustainability efforts

  • Energy saving principles: solar water heaters and photovoltaic panels
  • Recycling systems
  • Vegetable farm

3. Faros Villa

green hotels in naxos: faros villa

Faros Villa is a locally-owned and family-run hotel with elegantly designed rooms to provide comfort and a unique experience. With a pool, a bar, a restaurant, a garden, free parking, a children’s playground, mountain views, and a daily homemade Greek breakfast, Faros Villa is one of the best green hotels in Naxos, and ideal for families wanting to be close to nature and the beach. Beaches nearby include Hawai beach and Alyko beach.

  • Recycling policies
  • Water-saving practices with their own water cleaning system
  • Energy efficiency (solar panels)

4. Laguna Coast Resort

eco hotels in naxos: laguna coast

Close to Naxos town and the airport, Laguna Coast Resort has a beautiful sun terrace, a garden, a fitness centre, a lounge, an outdoor seating area, an outdoor shared pool, a few private pools, a spa, a restaurant, and is a 5-minute walk to Laguna Beach.

Laguna Coast Resort’s sustainability efforts

The hotel is part of the SLH (Small Luxury Hotels) group, which has sustainability at its core. Laguna Coast Resort is the largest regeneration project in Cyclades, located by wetlands and a long coastline with unique birds. One of their main focus is to protect the fauna and flora around the hotel, and one of the protection projects consisted of undergrounding voltage power.

Note: Laguna Coast Resort partners with Amazon for their “Naxos Smart Island” project, which isn’t ideal, and this reduces their credibility as a sustainable hotel just a tad.
